How to Play Texas Hold ‘em Poker

The first step in Texas Hold 'em Poker is placing the blinds and getting the game going. The term blind is used for bets which are placed without seeing the card. The casino dealer shuffles a pack of poker card and deals it out among the players, each person getting two hole cards (face down cards). This is followed by the pre-flop that involves the players to bet. Here the player's call whether they wants to raise their bet or fold. The burnt card is then removed and the flop i.e. the next three cards are displayed.

Any player can use any of these three cards to combine and form the hand. A second betting cycle begins, following which yet another card is burnt. The turn card i.e. the next card is then displayed. This card can be utilized to form the hand. A third betting cycle starts and it is generally at this point that the size of the bet is increased twofold. Just like the prior two rounds, a card is burnt and the river is pulled out from the pack. This can also be utilized to form the poker hand consisting of five cards. This is followed by the last betting cycle and the showdown takes place. The person who reveals the best hand is the winner.

Before you going to try out the game you should get to know the words and phrases that are intricately related to the game of Texas Hold 'em casino poker. The most common ones are listed below:

Blinds ' These are bets that are made without seeing the deal. The bet that requires you to pay half the minimum bet is called small blind while that which involves the payment of the entire bet is called big blind.

Showdown ' This is when each player shows his/her hand of cards starting from the person on the left of one who called last.

Raise ' A bet that is of a value higher than the one prior to it.

Call ' This is the bet hat is equivalent to the bet prior to it.

Fold ' If you do not wish to call or raise to may choose to fold. You may do so when you feel you may lose. On such an event you may show your cards and may dispose of them unrevealed.

Hole/Pocket cards ' The face down cards dealt out to the players before each hand.

Burn Card ' If you remove the next card on the deck before the flop, turn and river are dealt out the card put forward is called the burnt card.

Flop ' The first three cards of the community cards that are dealt out on the board.

Turn ' This is the name given to the fourth card out of the five community cards that are dealt out on the board.

River ' This is the fifth and last card that is dealt out in the game.
